The North Sea was only a few miles north of Attlebridge .

In the early morning hours,  the B-24's would take about 90 minutes to get into formation

off the beach at Cromer. After the combat missions the English coast was a welcome sight.

CARPETBAGGERS

The "Carpetbaggers" were a special operations group that flew night missions over enemy territory to drop in Intelligence Operatives and supplies. Their B-24's were stripped of armaments and painted black to blend in with the night skies. They were based at Harrington in East Anglia

The Print above features two  B-24's : A/C # 41-28789 "Blonde Bomber and A/C # 42-94794 "Yankee Maid"

SNAFU SNARK
Snafu Snark did not survive the war. The first crew, piloted by Malcom Dyke flew their 32 missions. The next crew had to crash land at  another base in England after a combat mission and the aircraft was not salvagable.
